The Mix at Arbor Place is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization. We partner with individuals, churches, businesses, educational institutions and a wide range of organizations to serve as a cross-cultural advocate that challenges teens to become tomorrow’s leaders.

 

BREAKING THE CYCLE

BEAUTY FOR ASHES:  The author of Master Plan: God’s Design For Your Life Revealed, Takiya McClain will facilitate girls’ classes exploring God’s expectation and helps them commit to a life of purity and abstinence.
FUTURE PROFITS:  The urban-focused curriculum will reach the emerging generation of youth in today’s media-driven economy while blending essential life skills with traditional financial literacy subjects.
LIFESKILLS:  LifeSkills Training is a program that aims to prevent alcohol and marijuana use and violence by targeting the major social and psychological factors that promote the initiation of substance use and other risky behaviors.
LIVE – MIDDLE SCHOOL:  Students will take a journey tailored-made for all the quirks and uniquenesses of junior high students.  Students will come face to face with the truths of Scripture through hands-on, interactive strategies.
LIVE – HIGH SCHOOL:   Students will be engaged in conversations and studies that will equip them to develop boldness in their faith, respond to challenges from peers and adults, prepare for life after high school, make wise choices and consider what it means to be a follower of Christ in the 21st century
REAL TALK:  FOR GUYS ONLY:  Pre-teen and teen boys will spend a special time with male mentors to talk openly and honestly regarding matters affecting them and their lives.
YOUTH LEADERSHIP/ JUNIOR YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM:  High and middle school students will learn the values of leadership, how to craft positive habits, build relationships, build relationships and make good decisions.  Students will also brainstorm ways of they can improve their neighborhood and “The Mix”.  They will complete an action plan and implement a final project.

 

 

VISUAL & PERFORMING

B-BOYING/B-GIRLING:  During breakdancing class, students will learn intricate body movements, strong acrobatic moves, coordination, style, and spontaneity.
KEEP IT CLEAN:  Students will participate in hip-hop mentoring program through poetry and songwriting.  Students will also have the opportunity to be recorded in a studio.
HIP HOP & BALLET CLASSES:  Students will enjoy a class where hip hop and ballet collide to make an amazing dance form.  Students learn basic dance skills and create a final performance for community members and parents to enjoy.
KINGDOM DANCERS:  Students will learn this special type of dance ministry by which they use their gift of dance to encourage, comfort and lift up people.  Students will have the opportunity to create a final performance for community members and parents to enjoy.
SWAN (Scaling Walls A Note At A Time):  Students of incarcerated parents develop a positive identity by receiving private music lessons and/or ensemble lessons.  They will receive one-on-one attention, learn to read music to practice and to perform.
THEATRE ARTS:  Students will focus on telling a story by creating characters and portraying emotions.  After school students will be able to participate in this fast-paced, interactive class.

 

 

LET’S MOVE

SPORTS OF ALL SORTS:  Students will enjoy fun relays, games and all kinds of sports.  They will get their hearts pumping as they have a great time exercising by playing games!
ReCHARGE! ENERGIZE:  This program is designed to help 2nd through 6th graders learn about and practice good nutrition and physical activity habits through fun, team-based strategies.

 

ACADEMICS

BOOKWORM BUDDIES:  After a long day at school, students will enjoy quiet time by having story time.  Come an enjoy hearing great stories from a large selection of books.  Good readers are typically good students. Come and sharpen your reading skills.
HOMEWORK HELP:  Elementary school aged students will receive assistance with their homework, study skills and test preparation.
KNOWLEDGE POINTS:  Middle and high school students will have the opportunity to get proven techniques for better grades in math, reading and writing!  Students will also find tutoring that improves study skills and helps make homework time more effective and less stressful.
